Travel | Galena, Illinois Announces LGBTQ Experiences

Galena Country installs an “Amazing for All” bridge to celebrate Pride Month.

It’s a great time to Get to Galena Country! The locals of Galena, Illinois welcome visitors from around the region to enjoy a month-long pop-up installation, celebrating Pride Month. For the second year, rainbow flags and stairs will take over the Galena Pedestrian Bridge in Downtown Historic Galena from Monday, June 1 – Tuesday, June 30, 2020. During that time frame, Galena Country Tourism (GCT) encourages pedestrians to snap and share photos using the hashtag #AmazingForAll. This pop-up aligns with the Illinois Office of Tourism’s successful #AmazingForAll campaign which embraces difference and diversity and welcomes everyone to experience the places and people that make Illinois so amazing, including LGBTQ travelers.

Galena2“Galena is a community rich with culture and history and this inspires us to share our story with the world,” says GCT President & CEO Rose Noble. “We think the timing and message of our #AmazingForAll pop-up campaign will shine light on our destination as one of the leading small towns in America, embracing equality and diversity.”

Galena Country is not alone in their efforts to welcome visitors in celebration of Pride Month. Many destinations around the world promote LGBTQ campaigns, including larger cities like Minneapolis, San Francisco, and Chicago. However, for a town of only 3,500 residents in the middle of the Midwest, Galena is proving small-town settings don’t mean small-minded people. Galena’s City Council voted unanimously in favor of the tourism bureau’s pop-up #AmazingForAll campaign.

“We are proud to have the support of our City Council and community with this campaign. Galena has a strong history of inclusivity with many residents and business owners championing equality,” says Noble. “We are often included in the State’s #AmazingForAll campaign and it makes us extremely happy to know that we are becoming a must-visit, and even must-live, destination due to our welcoming nature.”
