Kiwi Herring Remembrance Service and Vigil - 1 Year Later

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Members of the LGBTQIA+ community joined the friends and family of Kiwi Herring, a black, transgender woman killed last year by police, at a remembrance at the PrideCenter on Friday evening.

Two police officers shot Herring last August while they were investigating a reported stabbing in the apartment building where Herring lived with her partner and three children. Herring had reportedly been suffering physical and emotional harassment from a neighbor.

The remembrance was organized by the Metro Trans Umbrella Group who called for the protection of transgender people, particularly trans women of color. [Photography by Philip Deitch.]
