ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Latino youngsters took a whack at "The Donald" on Sunday at the Fiesta on Cherokee St. - a celebration of Mexican Independence Day.

The brainchild of the owners of Yaqui's on Cherokee, the "El Trumpo Takes a Thumpo" action drew hundreds of cheering onlookers as candy spilled from a giant piƱata of G.O.P. presidential front-runner Donald J. Trump.

The businessman and reality television star has risen to the top of the polls in recent months on a wave of anti-immigrant rhetoric.

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you," Trump said at last month's Republican presidential debate. "They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Tump has also championed building a wall between Mexico and the U.S. and called for the mass deportation of undocumented citizens.
