ST. LOUIS - PROMO, Missouri's statewide LGBT advocacy organization has unveiled Missouri Businesses for Equality, a new online directory designed so individuals can find a business across the state that supports  LGBT equality.

The website at MoEqualityBiz.com uses GPS to identify registered equality-minded businesses within 10 miles of where you are located. The site launched yesterday with five businesses in Missouri having signed on thus far. PROMO is encouraging community members to help identify entities that would be supportive by having them register at this link.

PROMO is working with businesses across the state to pass the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act (MONA), which would prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace, housing and public accommodation.

"We wanted to create this site as a resource so that Missourians know which businesses support workplace equality," said PROMO Communication Organizer Katie Stuckenschneider. "Since yesterday was the first day of Legislative Session and we are trying to pass the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act, this site is in direct coordination with what we launched last year, MOWorkplaceEquality.com. Businesses signing on to this directory are inclusive and fairness matters."

Businesses that register can do so at the one-time $25 or $50 level and are directly supporting PROMO this year at the Capitol.

In related news, PROMO will hold its "As Seen on TV" Trivia Night fundraiser at Grbic Restaurant and Banquet Hall on Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. Also in January, the organization will join other state equality groups across the country in launching www.DiscriminationExists.com. The week long campaign will serve as a reminder that discrimination does exist and provide education around the issue.

PROMO's annual Equality Day, Show Me Fairness, will be held on Feb. 17 at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City. Equality Day is an opportunity for LGBT and allied Missourians to meet with their elected officials, share their stories and talk about important issues.
