Open Sea Cruises Ends With Many Smiling Faces, Lots of Glitter and Confetti

The first LGBTQ cruise in collaboration of Dreamlines and Axel Hotels leaves passengers excited about concerts, DJ sets and overall entertainment.

Hamburg/Barcelona, October 25, 2018 – More than 1,200 members of the LGBTQ community and their allies celebrated love, freedom, openness and diversity in a colorful spectacle at the first ever Open Sea Cruise. Under the bright Mediterranean sun, passengers from 57 nations commemorated the last days of summer and left the ship with a smile. The cruise portal Dreamlines and the heterofriendly hotel chain Axel Hotels teamed up to bring this pop cruise to life.

On the journey through the western Mediterranean with an overnight stay in Ibiza, many stars and well-known DJs performed on the two stages on the pool deck and in the theater. Everything started with a performance by Icona Pop in the port of Barcelona. At sea, Kazaky showed how well men can dance in heels. Loreen blew the clouds in Ajaccio away, the Vengaboys brought the 90s back in Toulon, and Eleni Foureira set Palamós on fire. In Ibiza, drag icon RuPaul did not only make everyone onboard dance to his DJ set, but also warmed their hearts with his speech about peace, love and openness. Conchita ended the cruise with a very intimate acoustic set on the way back to Barcelona.

Every night followed a different theme and was accompanied by Lady Gaga, Madonna, Britney Spears and Abba impersonators. Drag queens from all around Europe showed off their talents in lip sync and performing live. Prescilla, known from the Jackie O in Mykonos, was a funny, sharp and smart hostess for the whole cruise. She made the crowd dance through a night of heavy seas and 9-meter-high waves and always found the right words to cheer on the nightly competition for the best outfit.

Open Sea Cruises followed a concept of avoiding unnecessary plastic waste. The 2,000 liters of gin and tonic and 1,400 liters of vodka long drinks were drunken out of reusable cups with paper straws. And the 800 confetti cannons blew snippets of rice paper in the air that did not pollute the ocean.
