ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Over $2,000 was raised on Friday at The Missouri Courage Scholarship and Happy Hour Fundraiser held at Just John nightclub in the Grove. The total includes a $1,000 matching donation from Courage Co-Chair Geneviève Aron Steidtman.

Last week we reported the story of Salem, Mo. native Jacob Wilson's effort to counter the (now rescinded) Dent County Commission's vote to fly government flags at half-staff each month in mourning of traditional marriage with a scholarship for area LGBT teens.

Wilson, who lives in Washington, DC, was on hand at Just John and explained that the Courage Scholarship is on track to raise $12K in 12 days - $1K for each month the commission voted to mourn equality.

"The Courage Scholarship, to me, is a great way to promote the importance of education while sending a message to the entire Salem community that discrimination and hate are not acceptable," Wilson told #Boom Magazine.
