ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Last week we reported the story of Salem, Mo. native Jacob Wilson's campaign to counter the (now rescinded) Dent County Commission's vote to fly government flags at half-staff each month in mourning of traditional marriage with a scholarship for area LGBT teens.

Courage ScholarshiWilson's "Courage Scholarship", which is crowd funded, has enjoyed widespread support and is currently just under $4,000 shy of its $12,000 goal - $1K for each month the commission voted to mourn equality.

To that end, a Happy Hour Fundraiser will be held on Friday, July 24 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Just John nightclub in the Grove to aid the scholarship and "raise money to send LGBT youth a strong message of love and acceptance that drowns out hate across the state."

Those unable to attend are encouraged to donate here.

"The Courage Scholarship, to me, is a great way to promote the importance of education while sending a message to the entire Salem community that discrimination and hate are not acceptable," Wilson told #Boom Magazine.
