Pete Buttigieg, who has served as mayor of South Bend, Indiana since 2012, came out as a gay man in a self-penned essay published by the South Bend Tribune just weeks before he faced voters for reelection. This past April he declared his candidacy for president. Buttigieg and I spoke on the phone about his campaign, his values, and whom he looks up to in the LGBTQ community.


Annual event’s name change reflects the strength, diversity, and forward-thinking vision of the Democratic party


DES MOINES, Ia. — The Iowa Democratic Party (IDP) has announced the new name of its annual fall event: the Liberty and Justice Celebration. The event, to be held on Friday, November 1 at the Wells Fargo Arena, will be one of the largest in IDP history. The Liberty and Justice Celebration is an opportunity to highlight the strength of the party heading into the 2020 elections, and to celebrate the candidates and campaigns that are organizing to turn Iowa blue in 2020, beginning with the First-In-The-Nation Caucuses on February 3rd. 


Victory Fund endorsed more candidates in 2019 than in any other odd-numbered election year in its 28-year history.

WASHINGTON, DC – LGBTQ Victory Fund, the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ leaders to public office, endorsed 48 new openly LGBTQ candidates this week in its last round of endorsements for the 2019 election cycle. The organization has endorsed 172 candidates for 2019 – the most candidates ever in an odd-numbered election year – and six candidates for 2020.
