COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Columbia Police Department has appointed Officer Clinton Sinclair as its first LGBT Liaison, KOMU reports. CPD said they created the position because they want to bridge gaps between the department and members of the LGBT community.

Sinclair, a six year veteran of the CPD who works in the DWI Unit, will consult with other officers on cases involving LGBT issues, train department members on LGBT topics and attend LGBT community events as a CPD representative.

“The City of Columbia has a large LGBT community. For law enforcement, this group presents new and unique challenges, which many officers may not understand how to address and resolve,” Sinclair told KOMU.
