ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis County Human Relations Commission has been presented with an award from the St. Louis Jewish Communities PRIDE Coalition.

The honor was given in recognition of the Commission's years of support for the LGBT community in St. Louis County and especially their active and public efforts which contributed to the County Council’s Nov. 2012 vote extending legal protection to the LGBT community as part of the Civil Rights Code.

The presentation was made by Coalition representative Philip Deitch.  The ceremony was also attended by SAGE Metro St. Louis Executive Director Sherrill Wayland, who was attending her first meeting as a Human Rights Commissioner.

Wayland’s appointment by County Executive Dooley was historic making the community advocate the first openly LGBT person to serve on the St. Louis County Human Relations Commission.
