ST. LOUIS – Wet your whistle for a good cause at the 9th annual “Thirst For Life” taking place throughout the city as close for 40 area bars, nightclubs, coffee houses and craft cocktail centric locations participate in the annual PAWS St. Louis fundraiser by donating 30-100-percent of beverage sales on Aug. 28, 2014.

According to Todd Alan Villmer, founder and chairman of the event, it was originally called “Cocktails for Life” for the first two years and designed to raise money for the unfunded program of St. Louis Effort for AIDS.

Pets Are Wonderful Support or PAWS is the only program of its kind in St. Louis; providing pet food and veterinary care for the pets of clients who are living with HIV/AIDS.  By providing this support, people with a chronic and often debilitating illness are able to keep their pets at home as long as possible.  PAWS helps maintain a lasting connection between client and pets.

PAWS relies solely on community donations. There are currently 65 pets enrolled in the program with 55 pets on a waiting list to receive services. The cost per pet for food service for a year is $780 and it’s an additional $245 per pet for veterinary services per year.

“As an animal lover myself, I could not imaging the heartbreak someone living with HIV/AIDS would be faced with if they had to choose between keeping their beloved pets, or being able to afford their own expenses,” said Villmer, who will be hosting at Just John in the Grove during the event.. “I am truly honored to work with so many amazing people around St. Louis in supporting the PAWS program."

Kicking off “Thirst for Life” will be the annual Art of PAWS - a celebration of phenomenal local art, music and cuisine on Aug. 16th from 7-11 p.m. at Gallery 400 (400 Washington Ave., St. Louis.)
