ST. LOUIS - Join the Gateway Men's Chorus as they kick off their 28th Concert Season with a holiday celebration unlike any other. Honoring the heritage and traditions of the diverse cultures and communities that gave birth and character to the city of St. Louis, GMC revisits 250 years of holiday traditions. With musical selections highlighting the Catholic, Jewish, German, Irish, and African American communities, the Gateway Men's Chorus promises a show rich with homegrown nostalgia, glad tidings of a joyous holiday season, and a look to a bright, New Year.

  

choruslogoLed by Artistic Director Al Fischer, the chorus will perform a varied repertoire that includes everything from contemporary pop hits like Great Big World's "This is the New Year" to the rich polyphony of Renaissance composer Palestrina. Classic holiday favorites such as "O Holy Night," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," and "All I Want for Christmas Is You" all make appearances, alongside holiday rarities representing the diverse cultures and communities of St. Louis. Between surprise Santa hats, holiday parodies of classic St. Louis tunes, and a quartet of dancing nuns, the men of GMC promise to continue to delight audiences with their showmanship, musical excellence, and unique sense of humor. 

 

The Season in the City is Gateway Men's Chorus contribution in support of stl250's year-long celebration of St. Louis's 250th birthday. The city-wide celebration is run on the support of our community, and Gateway Men's Chorus is thrilled to be a part of celebrating the region, inspiring cultural awareness, and convening diverse groups of St. Louisans!

 

The Season in the City performs on Friday, December 12th and Saturday, December 13th at 8 p.m. at the Edison Theatre, 6445 Forsyth Avenue, University City MO 63130. About the Gateway Men's Chorus

 

Since April 1988, the Gateway Men's Chorus has been performing to the delight of thousands throughout the St. Louis region. In 2012, Gateway Men's Chorus won the Focus St. Louis "What's Right with the Region" award for improving racial equality and social justice. From inception the Chorus has grown to over 100 members annually across its three-concert season and has become one of the most successful male choral arts organizations in St. Louis both in musical and repertoire and longevity.

 

The mission of Gateway Men's Chorus is to affirm and promote gay culture and acceptance through excellence in musical performance and education. The organization furthers this mission by producing beautiful male choral music and presenting a positive image of gay men. The Gateway Men's Chorus annually produces a three-concert season, highlighting a diverse blend of musical styles and entertaining performances. The organization also participates in a large number and wide range of special events and community outreach activities throughout the year. The group is open to singers of all backgrounds who sing within male vocal registers.

 

GMC is a legal 501(c) (3) non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors. The Chorus has benefited financially from the Missouri Arts Council, the Regional Arts Commission, the William A. Kerr Foundation, the Gateway Foundation, Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation, the Arts and Education Council.
