ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Board of Directors of TransParent have announced the appointment of Dawn Buckley as communications director, a national staff position.
“Dawn’s responsibilities include developing and leading our organization’s communications team to include writers and various content creators," said Kim Hutton, board president. " As a team, they will collaborate to share news of the good and important work TransParent is doing across the country through a variety of messaging channels including press, email, social media outlets, and website."
"We’re excited to have Dawn join us in this critically important role," added Hutton. "Through more effective and proactive communication, we’ll increase awareness of the naturally-occurring transgender human experience and, as a result, launch more chapters to serve more parents. Ultimately, we aim to unite our chapters to reveal the true size of this growing community and harness the power of their voice for greater national impact.”
Buckley’s early career began in the fields of education and advocacy. Her dedication to helping people expand their potential started in Missouri and Texas, where she taught elementary school. Her adventurous spirit then led her to Thailand, where she served in the U.S. Peace Corps, mentoring teachers and women’s groups to advance their skills and earning capabilities.
“I believe in the mission of TransParent with all my heart and am honored to be welcomed into their leadership team,” said Buckley. “Providing support for the parents, very literally, extends a lifeline to our trans youth. I’m thrilled to contribute to and expand this meaningful work and use TransParent as a powerful vehicle to spread support, love, education, and advocacy for this beautiful community.”
Buckley currently works at Filament as their Director of Client Experience, while living in Kirkwood, MO with her husband, Seamus, their lively golden-doodle, Archie, and four (more-than-lively) kiddos: Gracie, Finnegan, Daisy, and Beckett.
